I have started a really BIG project at least for me. I am attempting to make a quilt for Harper's new queen size bed. We bought a new bed about a month ago, so Harper got our old bed. I have been looking around at various places and just couldn't find anything that I really loved. Inspired by Carrie's quilts I decided to make a larger version for Harper's bed. I wanted something simple, modern, and colorful. I also wanted to use precut fabric, so I sketched out a plan using fat quarters. (Sorry in advance for the horrible photos.)
After looking at tons of fabric options, I settled on Kumari Garden.
I pre-washed the fabric. Then decided on a pattern. As you can tell the kids were very helpful during this process.
I pieced the fat quarters together in rows.
Then I made my quilt sandwich. I am using a queen sheet for the back and warm and natural for the batting.
I basted the quilt together with pins.
Now I just need to decide how I am going to quilt the thing. Any suggestions?

embroidery floss? tie the front and back together?
Oh my goodness, that is ADORABLE! I can see that it would be a huge project...but it's going to look great when it's finished! Sorry I have no advice to offer...I don't know anything about quilting...
oh...i'm am loving all over that fabric! it is gorgeous. yes...i'm only on the lap/study quilts, not ready to tackle one of those, i'm afraid...yet. ;-)
i just stitched-in-the-ditch on mine...i'm not sure how to do any more than that!
That is really pretty! The kids do look rather helpful there. ;) I can't help you with the quilting. I haven't done anything like that before. You can always do the yarn tie thing. That has always looked the easiest to me.
I remember sitting at my great grandmother's side while she quilted large bed-sized blankets on a giant quilt frame. My aunt now has the frame, and I'm sure she'll send it my way when she is no longer using it. But I've never quilted anything myself... Might be cathartic to stitch a random pattern since the pieces are very regular and uniform, unless what you're saying is you're not sure how to tackle the actual quilting process of a project this large.
I don't know how to quilt or anything about quilting but i LOVE every piece of fabric on this soon-to-be quilt. LOVE it!
I know nothing about quilting. but I love love love it. can't wait to see it when you get it done.
Match it with new furnishing too. Have financing furniture to get a new look on the room.
I love your quilt! I'm attempting to make similar quilts for my nieces and was wondering if you cut the individual fat quarters down and, if so, how much? I ask because you mentioned making the binding from the scraps and just wanted to make sure I have enough fabric to do the same. Thank you so much for sharing!
I love it. I saw Part 2 before Part 1 but I wanna make one now. It looks so easy compared to other quilts. :)
