Recycled Bottle Top Stamps

It was rainy and dreary out on Saturday. The kids were getting stir crazy so I decided we would do a craft. I took some plastic tops from drink containers in our recycle bin. I grabbed some craft foam that we had leftover from another project and we made stamps. Initially I used the glue in the picture below, but the kids wanted to use the stamps immediately so I pulled out my glue gun. The glue gun worked much better.

Harper drew directly on the foam and then I cut the designs out for her. Miller told me what he wanted and I cut them out for him. He then helped me clue the shapes to the tops. I made a couple for myself. I used a pencil to make indentions in the foam to add a little more detail.

We used washable ink pads, but I am sure paint would work just as well.

Harper was very proud of her masterpiece.

They both wanted to keep making more and more stamps, but we ran out of time and tops.

I am still working on a couple of wholesale orders that are taking me FOREVER to finish. I have been having some motivation issues. I hope to have them done by next Tuesday so I have something to show you.

The Neglected Garden

I have not written much about my garden lately. After all the planning and preparation, the vegetable garden was a bit of a disappointment. The squash plants produced some squash, but I think I planted them too close together and they ended up wilting away. My corn, spinach, and strawberry plants were eaten by rabbits. The pole beans grew like crazy and even survived the rabbits, but I should have thinned them out early on. We have been eating the beans, but they are very stringy and a little tough. The grape and cherry tomatoes have been the biggest success. It has been raining non stop for the last several weeks so they are a little water logged now. We also have a watermelon plant that has taken off, but I see no signs of watermelon. Right now my little garden looks very neglected.

I put more energy into the vegetables this year so the herb garden was REALLY neglected. Last year I froze a bunch of herbs and never used them. So this year I used the herbs as I needed them and did not worry about harvesting anything. I used every bit of cilantro that I planted so I know to plant more of that next year for sure. I have some seeds leftover so I am going to try to do a little herb garden inside so I have some fresh herbs for the winter months. Here's a photo of some mint that is now flowering.

The sun was out yesterday and there was a little chill in the air, which made it finally feel like fall. I took advantage of the nice weather and walked around the yard so I could snap some pictures. We have a lot of work to do. Always seems like that, doesn't it?

Happy Monday everyone.

Picture Day

Harper has fall pictures today so I made a simple skirt for her to wear. Nothing fancy, just comfy and practical. I made a yoga style waist. I also made a matching headband, but she thought it made her hair look funny. She told me that she liked it, but thought other people might think she looks funny. I think she was trying to be nice.

Sorry about the focus on this one, but wanted to show the waistband.

Don't you love the necklace? It totally makes the outfit, right? Also for the record I did not dress Miller this morning. There are some battles I choose not to fight. Dressing is one of them.

I also made myself a headband using the fabric, but of course did not take a picture. I love all the colors in the fabric. It will match a bunch of stuff.

I finally listed some GreenCraft magazines along with the cozies that were featured in the magazine in my Etsy shop.

Happy Crafty Tuesday everyone.

BSM- To Have and To Hold

DSC_1196 copy

I thought I would share another shot from our recent trip to Colorado. After our train ride we drove around the little town of Silver Plume. It is an old mining town. I fell in love with this church so we stopped so I could take some photos. I love the mountains in the background and how they are also reflected in the round window. All the little details of the church are so beautiful.

A Glimpse of Colorado

I am slowly making my way through the Colorado pictures. Here are some that stood out first go around. They are SOOC. It is too overwhelming to think about editing all these photos.

The snow capped mountains in the distance is Breckenridge.

I did not have my zoom lens on. I was that close to the chipmunk. There were hundreds of these little guys running all over the place.

Lake Dillon Dam Reservoir.

My very attractive husband.

I am not quite as expressive.

Some poppies in Breckenridge.

On the Georgetown Loop Railway.

We went over this bridge twice. It was pretty cool.

GreenCraft Giveaway

I'm alive. In case you were wondering. My husband and I took a mini vacation without the kids to go to a wedding in Colorado. We left last Thursday and returned home yesterday afternoon. We had a great time, but I am glad to be home. I sure did miss my kiddos.

Since I have done nothing crafty this week, I thought I would do a little giveaway. Remember this magazine I showed you several weeks ago? Would you like the chance to win your very own copy?

You are in luck. All you have to do is leave a comment and I will use a random generator to pick a winner on Friday September 18th.

This magazine is so inspiring and has tons of great green craft ideas. I will also have some copies along with the cozies that were featured in the magazine for sale in my Etsy shop soon.

Just Another Manic Tuesday

It is Tuesday, right? We made the most of our long weekend. I did a little bit of organizing and cleaning. My husband started some much needed work on our shower. We hung out with family on Saturday. We attended a family reunion on Sunday. Yesterday, Mitch ran in a 10k (6.2 miles)and Harper ran in the kids 1k (.62 miles).

Harper decided that she would wear her cheerleading outfit to cheer Mitch on during the race. We were not sure if she would run in the kid's race. Once we were there and she saw everyone else racing she wanted to join in the fun. At least it was easy to spot her in the crowd.

You can't tell by the picture, but her lip is almost completely healed. She also got back on her bike yesterday too. She did not want to earlier in the weekend, but didn't hesitate a bit yesterday.

Since it is Tuesday, I thought I would mention a little bit of craftiness. I made some coffee cozies, a custom klean kanteen cozy, and a taggie blanket. Of course, I only have a photo of the taggie blanket.

I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day!!

The First and Hopefully Last Bike Accident

Harper had her first very bad bike accident last night. It was one of those moments that seemed to be moving in slow motion, but it really happened so fast. I felt like I should have reacted differently or sooner or something. She was obviously not feeling really comfortable riding, yet she started down this hill anyways. I wanted to stop her and should have stopped her, but I didn't.

If she had just put on her brakes or if she had just glided down the hill, she would have been fine. The problem was she couldn't decide what to do and ultimately crashed. I watched the whole thing and it was horrible. I was too far away to know for sure, but it looked like her face smashed the street. She was screaming instantly. Mitch ran to her. He grabbed her and the bike and started back up the hill. All I could say was, "did she hit her face?" He said very seriously, "yes, she hit her face." I couldn't see her because she was faced the other way, but I could see Mitch's face and knew it was bad. As he passed me, I saw her and there was blood every where. We hurried home to further access the situation. She was still screaming. Mitch took her to the bathroom while I grabbed some ice. After we got her calmed down and Mitch took a good look at her mouth, he decided she needed to go to the ER. My gut was telling me she should go so I was glad that he felt the same way.

I stayed home with Miller and Mitch took her to the ER. It's a good thing I have a calm and collected husband. I truly don' t know what I would do without him.

I took this photo this morning. She kept ice on it the whole time she was the hospital so the swelling had gone done considerably by the time they made it back. As you can tell, she was not really excited about me taking a picture of her big, fat lip.

This is the worst injury that I have had to deal with so far as a parent. You feel so helpless, so much guilt, and so much pain. You wish that you could trade places. You wish that you could rewind time. It makes you realize how easy it is for something to go really wrong. You replay the scene in your mind over and over again. You want to just hold them in your arms and comfort them forever.

I know at the end of the day this was pretty minor. She escaped with no stitches and all her teeth intact. She is sore and swollen, but she is okay. I hope her confidence isn't shattered by this accident. She told Mitch that she wasn't riding her bike again until she was sixteen. To be honest at this very moment, I am ok with that.

Coffee Cozy DIY Kit Instructions

I took your advice and put together some instructions. I still need to finish the last page which explains how to sew the sweater piece to make the cozy. I am looking for feedback. You can click on the photo to make it bigger if you are having a hard time reading the instructions.

Are the instructions clear? Do I need to add more detail?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Broken Record

I am starting to feel a little bit like a broken record. I don't have anything new and exciting to share this week. I made some more taggie blankets for a friend. I made a custom owl for someone, which I forgot to photograph.

I was able to use some scraps on this one. I liked the different fluffy textures all together.

Then I had a custom order for some coffee cozies.

I am still trying to pull together a DIY kit. I am trying to decide if I need to include instructions. It seems pretty self explanatory to me, but I could be wrong. What do you think?

I have been itching to get some kits together so maybe I will have something more concrete to show you by next week.
